All right, it's settled. If you're a visual artist and you'd like to get your hands on some of my decidedly odd jewelery - [link] - read on, because here's your chance to win some!
Criteria
Draw (or paint, or whatever) one of the four primary characters from my forever-unfinished story, Tea and Sorcery--this means Mebrit (and/or his winged cat Tiramisu), Faenori, Mikala, and Lady Kos. You're welcome to do more than one, but quality trumps quantity. Everything from portraits to slice-of-life scenes are welcome--whatever you feel best illustrates the character and their personality.
All visual media are welcome; this means no written material (sorry; I know some of you would do some amazing stuff with how well you know the characters, but I'm just too iffy about letting other people write them). I am not biased against any form or style of art, and have dabbled in enough of them to be able to recognize good stuff across the board.
While I have provided a write-up and references for each character, don't feel obligated to copy existing outfits. If you can design something new that you feel suits the character, go for it!
The setting of Tea and Sorcery is part fey wilderness, part steampunkish city; it's not required, but feel free to incorporate either or both if the mood takes you.
Entries will be judged on the basis of likeness, technical skill, and overall visual impact and interest.
Rules
All material used in your entry must be your own, or stock that you are permitted to use.
Your entry must be created for this contest; no existing stuff, please!
Entries must be received by August 31, 2010, 11 P.M. my time (GMT -5). If you come in late, I'll still give you a spot in the journal feature, but you won't be eligible for any prizes.
Your art is yours but my characters remain my own; please don't use the image for profit without my permission or try to claim that the characters are yours. Likewise, I will not use your work without your permission.
Don't be an ass to the other entrants. Should go without saying, but yeah.
Prizes (hands up, how many of you skipped right to this part?)
First place will receive either a custom-made necklace (or bracelet or earrings if you prefer) or an existing necklace; winner's choice.
Second and third place will each receive their choice of necklace. Second gets to pick theirs first.
Winners can note me with the destination address after they've been chosen.
All entrants will get a little mini-feature in my journal once the contest is over.
Entering
Simply submit your piece as a deviation and leave a comment on this journal entry with a link. I'll put them up as I get them.
