There is no sense in secrecy, my love--not here, while you're with me.

This painting was born of pure spite.
Some time ago, a friend of mine blogged about some small-time fantasy publisher (or something of a similar ilk--it's been a while) that banned depictions of homosexuality. This in itself is enough to raise my ire, but the kicker was that it was listed in the same line as actual crimes (rape being one, if I recall correctly), as though it was somehow just as reprehensible.
I was not impressed.
I did the sketch for this sometime last year, and it remains my roundabout one-fingered salute to the homophobes of the fantasy art world, and a picture of gentleness for the rest of us.
That is -gorgeous- I don't know where to start... I love all the details you put into it, on the clothes and jewellery and the hair, oh my, the hair. The background is equally beautiful. And I just tieflings, so added bonus to what would have been wonderful anyway. I agree totally with the sentiment about homophobia.

A nightingale in a golden cage That's me, locked inside reality's maze Can't someone make my heavy heart light? It all starts with a lullabuy...
I love it! It really does show such gentleness between the two of them! And yes, why is there a need for secrecy? If you love someone, you shouldn't be ashamed, or keep it to yourself to spare someone else from feeling uncomfortable. That deal about the publisher really ticks me off. I admire you for drawing this picture, for you really did capture the essence of love and gentle delight between lovers.
Hmm. Just a comment. To me, the androgynous nature of the characters lessens the impact, since i had to wonder 'is the white-haired one male or female?' I could tell the other one was flat-chested, sure, but the white haired one not so much.
For a bit I actually thought the white-haired one was female. Now, the painting is fine to me either way, but it doesn't seem to work the best as a comment on homosexuality.
As well, reading the comments, now I'm wondering... is it supposed to be a gay couple or a lesbian couple? I can't tell. You've mastered the art of androgyny too well!
